Can one job give us everything we need? The case for diversifying your veterinary career.

Updated: Oct 8

We're in the pursuit of a role that is both engaging and fulfilling, without too much emotional drain. We want calm days with time to chats and breaks, but we don't want boring or too slow.

We want to work alongside colleagues who feel like family but not too much like family, since families argue. We want to be compensated to a level that reflects our efforts, all within the confines of a 9-to-5 workday.

Is it possible to find a single job that ticks all these boxes?

My suggestion is that we don't have to. The world has changed from a time when everyone had one 40 hour job unless you're a mum in which case you're allowed to have one career pursuit part time. That's not the world we live in anymore.

Variety, fulfilment and professional growth come from seeking non-traditional work weeks, and being brave enough to do more than one thing.

In my experience, a part time vet is a happy vet!

Here's how to shift your mindset to make the changes you might need for career (and life) fulfilment in the veterinary industry.
